Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions.

Everything you need to know about how Koali works, for candidates and recruiters alike.

For candidates

Why do candidates pay to apply?+

The small application credit ($2) creates a deliberate selection: you apply to roles you genuinely want, not every listing in sight. Because your application costs something, every recruiter on Koali is contractually required to provide written feedback within 10 business days. You are not paying for hope; you are paying for accountability.

How much does it cost to apply?+

One application costs one credit, approximately $2. Credits are sold in bundles: the more you buy, the lower the cost per credit. You can view current bundle pricing on your dashboard after creating an account.

What if I don't get a response?+

If a recruiter fails to respond within 10 business days, our automated system flags the breach and refunds your application credit automatically. You never lose a credit to a recruiter who ignores you.

What does a "written response" actually mean?+

Every recruiter is required to either shortlist you or decline with a personalised note. Not a generic rejection template. The note must be substantive. This is enforced by the platform and affects the recruiter's public response rate and rating.

How many spots are available per role?+

Each listing has a cap: a maximum number of applications it will accept. The exact cap is set by the recruiter, but it is always deliberately small. Once the cap is reached, the listing closes. You can see remaining spots on every job listing page.

Do unused credits expire?+

No. Application credits do not expire. Buy a bundle when pricing suits you and use them at your own pace.

For recruiters

How much does it cost to post a role?+

Recruiter access on Koali is subscription-based. Once your subscription is active, you can create listings, review applications, and confirm placements without separate per-placement billing.

How does recruiter billing work?+

Recruiters pay a recurring subscription to access posting and workflow tools on Koali. Placement confirmations are recorded for reporting, but they do not trigger a separate invoice or success fee.

How is Koali different from a traditional job board?+

Traditional job boards charge upfront and give you unlimited, unfiltered applications. Koali pairs recruiter subscriptions with deliberately small, motivated applicant pools. Candidates pay to apply, so the quality of the pool is significantly higher.

What is the application cap and can I set it?+

Yes. You set your own cap when creating or editing a listing. The cap is the maximum number of applications your role will accept. Once reached, the listing automatically closes. We recommend keeping it tight: the smaller the pool, the higher the average quality.

What are SLAs and what happens if I miss one?+

Every recruiter on Koali commits to responding to all applications within 10 business days of submission. Our automated system tracks every deadline. If you miss one, the breach is flagged, your public response rate is updated, and the candidate's credit is automatically refunded.

How does recruiter verification work?+

Before you can post a live role, your account must be verified by the Koali team. Verification involves confirming your identity, your company, and your role as a legitimate hiring professional. Verification typically takes 1 to 2 business days.

Can I close or re-open a listing?+

Yes. You can close a listing at any time from your recruiter dashboard. If you need more applications after closing, you can re-open a listing as long as it has not been filled. You can also set a deadline date on each listing for automatic closure.

About the platform

Who is Koali for?+

Koali is for serious candidates who are tired of applying into the void, and for recruiters who want a high-signal pool of applicants without paying upfront. It works best for professional and technical roles where deliberate, quality hiring matters.

Is my data safe?+

Yes. Koali is built on Supabase with row-level security, meaning your data is only accessible to you and the recruiters reviewing your applications. Payments are handled entirely by Stripe. We never store card details and we do not sell your data.

What happens to my application if a listing is filled?+

If a listing reaches its cap before you apply, you will see a "Full" indicator and the listing will no longer accept new applications. If you have already applied and the listing closes afterward, your application is still reviewed normally.
